Somebody finally gets it ….

Singers and Musicians are some of the most driven, courageous people on the face of the earth. They deal with more day-to-day rejection in one year than most people do in a lifetime. Every day, they face the financial challenge of living a freelance lifestyle, the disrespect of people who think they should get real jobs and their own fear that they’ll never work again.
Every day, they have to ignore the possibility that the vision they have dedicated their lives to is a pipe dream. With every note they stretch themselves, emotionally and physically, risking criticism and judgment. With every passing year, many of them watch as the other people their age achieve the predictable milestones of normal life – the car, the family, the house, the nest egg. Why? Because musicians and singers are willing to give their entire lives to a moment – to that melody, that lyric, that chord or that interpretation that will stir the audience’s soul!
Singers and Musicians are beings who have tasted life’s nectar in that crystal moment when they poured out their creative spirit and touched another’s heart. In that instant, they were as close to magic, God and perfection as anyone could ever be. And in their own hearts, they know that to dedicate oneself to that moment is worth a thousand lifetimes!

Dreams …

“A single dream is more powerful than a thousand realities!” – J.R.R. TOLKIEN

What is it about dreams? Sometimes I wake up in the morning and can’t remember a single thing wondering if I even dreamed at all? Of course the purpose of dreams might never be fully understood, though they have been a topic of scientific studies throughout recorded history. Scientists even believe that the majority of animals also dream. WOAW! Who would’ve thought? Now, I wonder what the cats of my BFF dream of every night? Mice, food, birds, killing spiders and chasing butterflies? Well … one thing is certain: us humans will definitely never know 😉 …!

However, dreams that tend to be extremely vivid and are still memorable in the morning by the time you’ve been awake for hours and already back in the office, seem to me to be the bestest of dreams!!! It’s a proved scientific fact that people are more likely to remember the dream if they are awakened during the REM phase … so, last night I must’ve woken up twice during my very own REM phases as I completely remember both funny dreams I’ve had 😀 …!

My dreams usually range from normal and ordinary or funny to extremely bizarre, exciting, adventurous and sometimes even sexual. (ha … there, I’ve said it out loud…!) But … most of all: they are always as vivid as possible and I can smell, taste, feel every tiny wee thing as if I was fully awake! Funny thing about it all, I dream in ‘Cinemascope’ and everyone involved always speaks English!

If it is true what the Austrian neurologist Sigmund Freud once wrote in one of his theories about dreams and their interpretations, then dreams are a manifestation of our deepest desires and anxieties! WOAW!!! Thank you, Freud … thinking of your theory this morning put my dreams of last night in a whole new perspective 😉 …!

OK, I must admit that in my first dream I met up with an old acquaintance of mine and I didn’t wonder at all why I dreamed of him as he has been a lot on my mind lately due to the fact that he texted me about his next concert tour coming up in 2013! So, in my dream we were joking & foolin’ around after one of his concerts, taking funny snapshots with my iPhone of the two of us and at one point  he tickled me sooooo much, that I laughed out loud and woke up because *someone* was laughing very loud in my bedroom 😀 …! Ahahahahaaaaa, that *someone* was me …! I was completely taken aback by myself because such a thing has never happened to me before – well, not as though I remember – and I went straight back to sleep, still grinning quite madly like a Cheshire cat! (… and YES, I did check my iPhone in the morning – needless to say no snapshots were on it 😦 …)

The next dream was completely about something else as I dreamed of some of the team colleagues I work with and one of my colleagues was moving furniture around in a brand new office building. Others were running around trying to put cupboards in certain rooms as well as bolting shelves to the walls. The colleague, I happen to share an office with, was also running around the new building saving all the foliage plants, putting them in a ‘sort of’ Greenhouse and her boss was constantly searching for his ‘new’ office which he apparently couldn’t find. I figured this dream must’ve come straight from my subconscious as our department is currently in the process of moving elsewhere in the city and also some colleagues are moving house to start at our Headquarters sometime in the New Year. Lots of things happen to be on my mind lately concerning all this movement and as I have to move house myself, no wonder I dreamed this …!

I just love my dreams, especially those which are so very vivid that I can still taste, smell and feel them in my memory as if they’d been real and have actually happened. Even though being wide awake now for some time this morning, I still remember everything so clear and detailed about my first dream that I can’t wait to see my acquaintance again next year! And telling my colleague of my “office dream” of last night brought a heart-soaring smile to her face and we were both laughing out loud ‘visualizing’ if we really would have such a fun office move 😀 …!

“The best thing about dreams is that fleeting moment, when you are between asleep and awake … when you don’t know the difference between reality and fantasy … and when for just that single moment you feel with your entire body and soul that the dream is reality and it really happened!”

I’ve come across thousands of outstanding and amazing locations either in the BIG CITIES or enjoying nature wildlife during my travels all around the world. Not only have I been to the Scottish Highlands and Islands, enjoyed magnificent landscapes in various US National Parks and Canada or being all over New Zealand’s North and South Island, but I’ve also been to some of the most beautiful cities in the world and here is a first glance of my best *City Impressions* from New York, San Francisco, St. Louis and London … and – who would’ve guessed – even Frankfurt’s new architectural Shopping Mall “MyZeil” had to be included ~ © by Iris Hellwig

Happy for my BFF …

Well, what can I say … since I’ve received a call this morning from my BFF, I can’t stop grinning 😉 I’m really happy for her that she’s got an awesome feedback from one of our favourite authors whom she sent an excerpt of her latest manuscript. He totally praised her writing and I can’t be more proud for her as I already am …!

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting *him* in person recently on my trip to Scotland where we spent a lovely afternoon chatting about all things in life and reading/writing books in general. During our chit-chat I highly recommended my BFF’s writing skills and he asked me to tell her to send him something as he was quite interested.

After persuading her to do so, eventually she sent him a short excerpt and got his reply this very morning. Since then she’s “on a high” … and I am, too 😀 I’m totally thrilled and soooooooo fookin’ happy, I can’t put it in words! She has really got an awesome talent and I keep telling her that – not every single day, but almost 😉 – so, finally someone else has given her a feedback she so derserves for her writing skills and of course the exciting storyline of that novel of hers.
